The mistake at the beginning
Sometimes, I sense that God gives me the thing that I need. English is not my first language. I was actually in a panic before arriving in America when my English writing skill was not good enough; I did not know how American cultures are applied to American college writing. However, when I started my first academic semester, I was placed in two English classes: Eng 110 and Eng 151 (my first-year seminar class), which actually have been developing my writing and supporting me with my college papers. Taking the 2 courses helps me have opportunities - which I desired to experience in Vietnam - to get involved in the native environment and use English to connect with more friends and ideas and become open-minded about various cultures worldwide; the more open-minded I am, the more lessons I realize from mistakes.
( The first Depauw sweet piece of cake I got on the Depauw campus after class Eng110)When taking my first class of English - Eng 110, I studied Grammar which I used to consider my strength. To work out before class, my professor gave me a paper of grammar questions about relative clauses; my mission is to underline relative pronouns. I finished the questions as fast as possible; I was quite sure that all the answers are true, so I was actually self-confident when checking with the professor and classmates. I was surprised by the outcome when I realized that I had overlooked two pronouns due to my lack of concentration. If it were me of the past, I would ignore them because it was only a momentary lack of focus; however, little ignorance would create a long-term habit and then I would keep making the same mistakes; therefore, I corrected my mistakes and admonished myself not to repeat them. The mistake I made at the first of the session taught me that, despite my strengths, I still need to exercise caution and address any problems right away if I don't want to repeat my mistakes, especially, to develop my writing during my university years, which require high accuracy.
